About the Project

The Kentucky Human Rights Commission, the University of Kentucky Office of Community Engagement and the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History are honored to celebrate the Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame inductees and use oral history to capture these stories in their own words. It is our intention to educate and inspire viewers on the power of the human spirit and how it is moving our nation towards greatness.

Lisa Higgins-Hord is the Assistant Vice President of the University of Kentucky’s Office of Community Engagement and has led the Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame Oral History Project since its inception in 2013.

Doug Boyd is the Director of the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky Libraries and has collaborated on the Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame Oral History Project since its inception in 2013.

Joanna Hay is the producer-director of the Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame Oral History Project. She is a documentary filmmaker whose work is in the Library of Congress and is the owner of Joanna Hay Productions.

Oral History Interviewer Betty Baye was a reporter, editor and columnist at The Courier-Journal in Louisville for 27 years. She is a motivational speaker and author of The Book of David: My East Harlem Love Story.

Oral History Interviewer Nieta Wigginton is an educator and social entrepreneur who works at the intersection of business, education, community engagement and the Arts. She is the Community Arts Manager at LexArts.
